This meeting’s main subject was the annual signing of our charter. The meeting was well attended and included Ben Sawall from the Woodstock, IL STAR chapter. Ben, as some of us know, is on a job assignment with TVA and has attended rides and meetings with some of our members. Ben will be leaving the area soon for another assignment. We’ll surely miss Ben, and hope he and Pam will be able to return to our area again.
We also gained new members at the meeting. Jake and Christine Marquette and Sean and April DeBerry. Bill and Larry Lewis were guests who are considering membership. We’d love to have them sign on, so encourage them to ride with us and give us an audition.
Roy Thomas accepted the Sargent at Arms position. Roy is employed with military security so that will be a good fit.
There were some discussions of providing printed materials to be included with new/used motorcycles by local dealers. The material would present our STAR chapter to the purchaser and allow them to get to know us, ride with us and hopefully join our chapter.
We talked about and decided that we would join with Ed’s Cycles in Cleveland to have a “Customer Appreciation Day”. Our members would provide a cook out at Ed’s Cycles. Ed’s might provide a few door prizes and maybe a test drive or two for customers and prospective STAR members. That event is scheduled for April 21st. I’m sure there will be more details divulged at our next meetings.
The 50/50 drawing was won by our guest Ben Sawall. Ben very kindly returned a portion of the winning to the chapter. Thank you Ben.
The ride schedule for the 2012 riding season was mentioned. Everyone should be thinking about where the schedule should take us and bring those ideas/suggestions to the next meeting. Mike and Mary Runyon presented one idea “The War Woman” a route that loops through areas of north Georgia. Hannah and B.L. suggested July 7th for their annual “B.L.’s Loop Ride”. Pulled pork and ribs to follow the ride….yummmm!
Following the meeting a visit to Ed’s Cycles by most of the members was in order. John hung our STAR chapter banner prominently above the counter and made the initial arrangements to set up the “Customer Appreciation Day” there. Afterwards some members (those who had braved the cold and rode their bikes to the meeting!) rode on to Biker Rags in Knoxville. We dodged the rain and eventually had some brief peeks of sun through the clouds.
All in all a nice day, constructive meeting and with great friends and lots of food….PERFECT!
